Hindi

Hindi is a major language of the Indo Aryan Language Family. It passes during its Evolution through Sanskrit → Pali → Prakrit → Apabhransha → Khari Boli Hindi.

The importance of Hindi in the modern world is directly relative to India's significance in the world (which is now well known). Its close relation to Urdu and other Indo Aryan languages enhances its significance even more.

Dr. Bernard Comrie's article for the Encarta Encyclopaedia (1998) lists Hindi as the Second Largest language in the world with 333 million speakers. Other surveys list Hindi as the Third Largest with estimated 250-350 Million speakers.

HOUSING INFORMATION

AIIS assists students in finding local accommodation within a reasonable commuting distance of the Language Program center. Depending on the size of the Program and the availability of suitable accommodations, students are housed in host families (who speak the target language) as a paying guest where the rent includes the food (breakfast, dinner daily and lunch on weekends). Detailed guidelines will also be sent to students once they are accepted into an AIIS Program.
